As I’ve hopefully made clear already, this isn’t the device to buy if you’re a media junky or a gamer. So, for the kind of intensive messaging and productivity tasks that you’ll be using the BlackBerry Key2 LE for, that 3000mAh battery proves to be just fine. For the record, though, 15 minutes of constant Guns of Boom gameplay with the screen set to half-brightness sapped 7% of the Key2 LE’s juice. That’s roughly the same as your average low to mid-range Android phone, such as the Xiaomi Mi A2. Which is kind of a downer when you consider that these phones are running much larger displays, and often faster processors. Charging is nice and swift, particularly when you opt to engage Boost Mode charging. In doing so, I was able to get from 62% to 81% of a full charge in just 15 minutes.

Another 15 minutes carried me up to 93%. Should you buy the BlackBerry Key2 LE? Our description of the full-fat BlackBerry Key2 as “a niche product that will only appeal to BlackBerry die-hards and those who use their phone purely as a messaging and email device” applies equally well to the BlackBerry Key2 LE. Of course, with a launch price of £350 it’s also a significantly more affordable niche device. The compromises made to reach that lower price tag have been smartly judged, and the Key2 LE does more or less everything you’d want of a modern BlackBerry device with a fair amount of poise. It’s not a media powerhouse, nor is it the fastest phone on the market, and its camera is mediocre at best. But then, you could say the exact same thing about the Key2.

Sure, the Key2 LE is a worse phone but it’s arguably better value. Related: Best mid-range phones Ultimately, though, it all comes down to that physical keyboard. If you still prioritise tactile typing over virtually everything else, then the BlackBerry Key2 LE is a temptingly priced option.

Verdict The Key2 LE remains a ‘BlackBerry die-hards only’ affair but it’s far more sensibly priced than its big brother. ONNOVEMBER 2 "IPHONE XS MAX REVIEW: THE BIGGEST IPHONE EVER" iPhone XS Max review: The biggest iPhone ever What is the iPhone XS Max? It’s an ‘S’ year for iPhone revisions. That means instead of complete redesigns, refinements and spec-bumps are the order of the day. Despite this being the case, the iPhone XS Max feels like a more significant revision than the smaller iPhone XS. This is because it offers users an iPhone X design in a ‘Plus’ size. In short, this is the device that many wanted last year. It’s not the only exciting large phone we’ve seen this year and it has some strong competition.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 arguably does more with the big screen, offering the S Pen stylus and plenty of multitasking features. There’s also the OnePlus 6T, a phone that’s half the price of the XS Max. iPhone XS Max – Design The most significant update to the iPhone line this year is the iPhone XS Max. Where the iPhone XS feels like the smallest jump between iPhones, the Max version genuinely offers something different. The iPhone XS Max packs all the design tweaks and material choices that debuted with the X: a stainless steel rim, glass back and the near edge-to-edge display. If someone stretched out an iPhone X then this would be the result. There are some issues, though.

This is a big phone and I feel that Apple should have done more to better deal with its size. For example, with the Galaxy Note 9, Samsung has used curves to almost disguise the size of the device and make it feel smaller. Related: Best smartphones The iPhone XS Max takes no such tack, and as a result feels thicker and more difficult to manage. Holding it one-handed has proved an impossible feat for me, and reaching up to pull down the notification panel constantly leaves me with the feeling that I’m going to drop the device.
